COMMUNITY INCLUSION THROUGH FOOD

Yarn & Yield is based on Best Food Garden, a successful community project in Inverell.  With the leadership of Danny, we will replicate and build on the success of Best Food Garden here on the Sunshine Coast.  We have the land in West Woombye ready to grow food, create enterprises and build community.  Yarn & Yield is an emerging social enterprise putting food, connection, and community health and wellbeing at its centre.

CONNECTING

Connecting to our food, connecting to nature, then land and the people on the land. Connecting for enhanced health and wellbeing.

Learning to grow food

CREATING

Creating learning opportunities.  Partnering with RTO's to learn to grow food, workshops for caring for land.  New social enterprises.

Community

COMMUNITY

Growing a community built on mutual support, reciprocity and sharing the commons.  A caring supportive community.

About us

Yarn & Yield is seeded from the experience Danny had in creating Best Food Garden in Inverell and Helen who founded Spare Harvest.  Yarn & Yield is building on these previous successes.

The BEST Food Garden,  a social enterprise, facilitated the participation and engagement in meaningful activities for disadvantaged people, particularly those with a disability and the long term unemployed. The BEST Food Garden continues to promote and develop community collaboration and social inclusion.

Spare Harvest, a social enterprise, was a web based marketplace for communities to connect and share what they had spare in their gardens and kitchens.  Spare Harvest existed to reduce waste, share the abundance and build strong resilience communities.,

WHAT IS A SOCIAL ENTERPRISE?

Social Enterprises are like other businesses, but exist specifically to make the world a better place.  There are over 12,000 social enterprises in Australia making a difference by caring for the environment, providing services for the vulnerable, helping people access decent work and lead in community-lead innovation.  These amazing enterprises are creating over 200,000 jobs and making an economic impact to the value of $21 billion per year.
