Membership
Membership IS the Community
Yan & Yield is being built by people who believe in another way of living, working, and creating together. There is no finished product waiting for you to join. We are building it together.
A co-operative is not a business that has customers. The people are the co-operative. Membership is what turns a group of people who share an interest into a community with a shared purpose, a shared stake and a voice in what happens next.
When you become a member of Yarn and Yield, you are not simply signing up to receive something. You are choosing to become part of something. Your membership helps create the community itself. It gives us the people, resources and relationships needed to build a different kind of organisation – one where value is co-created with and for the community rather than simply extracted from
The strength of Yarn and Yield will always depend on the strength of its membership.
Why Do We Need Members?
Because a co-operative cannot exist without it members. Members are the people who give the co-operative its purpose, its legitimacy, and its life. They bring different things at different times.
Ideas … Skills … Knowledge … Resources … Participation … Care … Curiosity
Some members will help build enterprises. Some will participate in activities. Some will bring knowledge and experience. Some will support the co-operative financially. Some will help shape its direction. Some will simply show up, connect with others and become a part of the community. All of these contributions matter. Together, they create something that none of us could create alone.
Membership is more than belonging.
Belonging matters. But membership goes further. To be a member is to have a relationship with the organisation you belong to. It means having a stake in its future. It means accepting some responsibility for what you are helping to create. And, depending on how you choose to contribute, it can mean having a voice in how the co-operative is governed.
This is one of the fundamental differences between a co-operative and many other organisations.
We are not building a community around a product.
We are building the organisation through the community.
Different ways to be part of the same community.
Not everyone has the same capacity, interests or desire to contribute. And that is okay. A healthy community needs different kinds of participation. Some people want to help build. Some want to participate. Some want to support.
Each membership helps create the foundations of Yarn & Yield. Membership income helps us build and maintain the co-operative itself – its systems, community platform, relationships, activities, shared resources and capacity to support new possibilities.
And as the co-operative grows, membership provides the foundation for more people, enterprises and places to join the ecosystem. Your membership is not simply paying for access. It is helping create the thing you are joining.
This is why Yarn & Yield has different membership options. Each one represents a different relationship with the co-operative and contributes to a brighter future for generations to come.

Your Membership ... Your Contribution ... Our Future
There is not expectation that every member will contribute in the same way. But every member relationship matters. Kin Members have a deeper contributing relationship. Community members participate in the life of the co-operative. Friends Of provide financial support. Together, these relationships create the community that gives Yarn & Yield its strength. And as that community grows, so does our collective capacity to create change.
The co-operative belongs to its members.
Its future is shaped by its members.
Its possibilities grow through its members.
Yarn & Yield is still becoming. That means your membership is more than a transaction. You are helping create the community that will shape what comes next.
