About Us

The Future is Bright for Those Who Dare To Dream....

Yarn and Yield, is a project with the shared purpose of creating a regenerative ecosystem for the benefit of current and future generations. We have a dream to create a new way of doing business that enhances the wellbeing of the community while protecting the land. As a regenerative intermediary, we have a mission to build a cooperative that co-creates activities with the community on lands secured in a Community Land Trust. We are doing things differently, no business as usual here. Our difference will be our success, replicating our community model in other local communities.

We have the land in West Woombye, 23 acres to start a regenerative urban farm. The current owners purchased the land with the intent to use the land to create a community benefit. That intent has now been seeded into Yarn and Yield. The landowners want to sell the land to a Community Land Trust (CLT). In time, we hope to invite other landowners to sell their land to the CLT, building an ecosystem of landholdings in local communities across Australia.

Building a Regenerative Ecosystem

Yarn and Yield will be a Regenerative Intermediary working as a container of change organisation holding the space for the development the Community Land Trust and co-creating with the community for other cooperatives and social enterprises.  Our first community cooperative will be the regenerative farming cooperative on the property in West Woombye.  As a regenerative intermediary, we will not be directly involved in the community cooperatives but instead support them in their development and ongoing management.  We will play a crucial role in maintaining the cooperatives’ momentum, coherence and effectiveness while reducing the administrative and financial burdens.  To build the Yarn and Yield regenerative intermediary, we need founding members, a board of visionaries with the wisdom and skills to do things differently.

Community Land Trust

A CLT (a non-profit) will be created with Deductible Gift Recipient status to receive donations to raise funds to purchase land. The first purchase will be the land at West Woombye. The CLT takes land off the speculative market, securing and protecting it for future generations for community benefit. We hope to acquire other landholdings, giving landowners another way to sell their land and giving them a return on their investment. The CLT will be the ongoing custodian, providing a space for the community to connect and support each other.

Cooperative

Cooperatives prioritise the well-being of their community by providing goods and services that meet local needs. Cooperatives empower people to realise their economic aspirations collectively while strengthening their social and human capital and developing their communities. As an intermediary cooperative, Yarn and Yield will be the operational arm for the CLT, working with the community to co-create other community organisations that use the land for activities like growing food, nature programs, repair cafes, health and wellbeing services, housing and many other service-driven initiatives. Our members will be workers, volunteers, residents, customers and the wider community. As a non-distributing cooperative, not-for-profit legal entity with charity status, we build a regenerative ecosystem of lands and communities.

Community

Landowners, individuals and organisations can participate in creating a thriving future for local communities across Australia.  We have a grand vision of creating a network of Community Land Trust and Cooperatives across Australia.  Working together to benefit local communities and local lands.

It starts with you!  You can become a member, help us form our new board or offer your skills to develop our network.   Reach out and lets explore how we can work together to create Yarn and Yield.
