Our Vision
A mycelium network of community benefit, from soil to soul
We envision a future where land is held with care rather than extracted for short-term gain, and where community, ecology and enterprise are woven together so that what we steward today keeps nourishing life for generations. At the heart of that vision are two connected parts: a Land Trust that holds land in trust, and Yarn & Yield, the community co-operative that brings the land to life.
Land held in trust, forever
We intend to establish a Land Trust to hold land in perpetuity for future generations: not for speculation, but as a shared inheritance, protected so it can’t be fragmented or sold off.
One question will guide every decision: will this land be healthier, more resilient and more alive because we were here?
Our first land is at West Woombye. It’s both a beginning and an invitation: a proof of concept that land can be held differently, and a call to our community to help raise the funds to secure it.
Yarn & Yield, the mother tree
Yarn & Yield is the operational heart of the vision: a community co-operative caring for, stewarding and activating land for community benefit through regenerative agriculture, education, enterprise, wellbeing and shared knowledge.
Guided by cooperation over competition and contribution over consumption, the land is not managed for the community, but with it.
How the vision grows
Caretakers as stewards
We intend each property to have dedicated caretakers living on or closely connected to the land, accountable to both the land and our membership, and we intend for their lived experience to inform governance.
Many lands, one community
West Woombye is our first home, but we see a network of lands across Australia, each with its own character, connected through shared values and one co-operative body.
An invitation to landowners
If you've poured years of care into your land, we'd love to talk about how it could be protected and cared for by a living community long into the future.
A legacy of care
Our vision is not about scale for its own sake. It’s about depth, continuity and responsibility: structures that outlast individuals, pathways to belong to land without owning it, and a living legacy measured not by profit, but by soil depth, shared meals and stories passed forward.
Yarn and Yield is an experiment in remembering an old truth: that land thrives when it is cared for by many hands, guided by shared purpose, and held with humility.
